Task 7. Daily routine
How does an Inmate Spend a Day?
Although each prison has its own rules and regulations there daily plan look quite alike. Some prisons have more programmes for inmates, some others want inmates to stay in their cells rather than go out.
It also depends which prison (high-security, low security, etc.) an inmate is serving his/her sentence. Daily routine can be altered on visitation days.
Reveille:
- a wake up call (depending on the institution, but the time can range anywhere from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m.)
- roll-call (to ensure all inmates are accounted for)
- breakfast
Work and different programmes:
- working (either in the garden or kitchen or in production, etc.)
- some inmates go to school
- treatment programmes
Lunch and another roll-call
- working
Evening:
- returning to the cell
- cleaning the cell
- writing home, working out, etc.
- dinner
- showers
